OUR STORY

Our first encounter with a log cabin of this kind was on a ranch in Montana nestling under the Bear Tooth Mountain range on the edge of the Rocky Mountains. We fell in love with the hand crafted whole logs and the sheer beauty and warmth of the building. We were not able to get the memory out of our minds, so in the Summer of 2015 after a long search we found a company that could build Log cabins and amazingly they were not far from here!

Martin the owner of ‘The British Log Cabin Company’ had an open day at one of his log cabins, we went and fell hook, line and sinker once again! However, we wanted to design our own cabin and after many discussions work eventually began in June of 2016.

The plot for our cabin had never been an issue, for many years it had been used to graze our horses and they could often be seen enjoying this sunny corner! The woodland made a wonderful back drop and shelter from the winds.

Martin sourced our trees and they were delivered to his yard where they were stripped of their bark. The trees used are Western Red Cedar, we estimate that they were about 50 years old and we used about 150 trees from a sustainable forest in the South of England.

With great excitement we watched our cabin being built, chainsaws and axes were the main tools! The cabin was built to eaves height in the yard, taken apart and delivered here on several artic lorries. With cranes, hoists and ladders the cabin was re-erected log by log and the roof built.

In June 2017 we were able to start welcoming guests into Radjels Retreat at Badger's Wood with the complete 'Brocks Lodge' following in 2018.

THE WILDLIFE

In Badger’s wood at the rear of the cabin there is an abundance of wild life from Badgers, Foxes and Buzzards to Rabbits, squirrels and Moor Hens. King Fishers and water voles have been seen in the reed bed and Mallards, Canada Geese and pole cats have been seen in and around the pools.

The Fox and Badgers can sometimes be seen looking for food at the rear of the cabin and the Buzzard seems to enjoy sitting in one of the trees just outside the windows.

Guests have also seen Wood peckers, Owl, Bats and newts.
